Welcome to Student Finance

You may feel a little anxious about your finances, and be wondering how you are going to manage to pay for your tuition fees, living expenses and all the costs associated with going to University.

This website will explain the funding that is available to you and show you how you can meet these expenses.

We are here for information and advice on a range of welfare and financial concerns, including:

  • debt counselling (credit cards, loans, overdrafts)
  • gas, electric, water bill issues
  • contact with trusts and charities
  • basic money management and budgeting skills
  • information on tax
  • childcare
  • liaison with banks and education authorities on your behalf

In addition, Student Finance are responsible for the allocation of money from a number of Student Hardship Funds including the Access to Learning Fund (a discretionary fund subject to means testing and availability of funds). This fund may help you with:

  • course costs - books, travelling expenses, etc.
  • living costs
  • childcare and nursery fees.

Remember - Studying at a higher education level will increase your career prospects and should give you a higher income. By managing your money successfully throughout your course, you will increase your chances of success and will be investing in your own future.

Student Tax Awareness Campaign

If you're one of the three quarters (76%) of students holding down a job while you work, you need to know the facts about tax. Visit HM Revenue & Customs' website, www.direct.gov.uk/studenttaxadvice, to find out everything you need to know about tax and National Insurance.
