Welcome to Disability
Services.
As a disabled prospective student you will
need to be sure that the institutions you
apply to are accessible and can meet any support
needs you may have. These web pages are Birmingham
City University's Disability Statement. They
are designed to answer any questions you may
have about the disability-related support
we can offer you.
Our Policy Statement
Birmingham City University is committed to
the fair and equitable treatment of disabled
students. The University aims to provide an
accessible environment and a range of support
services to enable disabled students to participate
fully in all activities of the University.
We believe that a person is only disabled
when confronted by negative attitudes and
environmental factors. We are working towards
creating a positive, supportive and inclusive
learning environment across all the university's
sites and faculties. We are doing this by
making improvements to all sites and buildings,
better provision of enabling equipment and
intensive staff training in disability issues.
Our policy and provision is evaluated, developed
and enhanced to ensure that the needs of our
current and future disabled students are met.
We have over 2500 disabled students enrolled
with us. The majority of these disabled students
have an "unseen disability".
While Birmingham City University will make
every reasonable effort to provide the support
and services described and to help you make
best use of them, budgetary and other constraints
on our resources make it impossible for us
to guarantee that all services will be available
to all students at all times without restriction.
