Welcome to the Counselling
Service.
The Counselling Service aims to support the
academic objectives of the University by providing
help to students who have emotional and psychological
difficulties which may be disrupting their
ability to study effectively. We believe that
counselling is a process which can be useful
to people facing all kinds of issues, regardless
of the level of distress involved. What matters
is simply that you have a problem……and
that you wish to seek help in sorting it out.
The core activity of the Counselling Service
is therefore to offer individual counselling
to students presenting with a broad range
of personal difficulties. However, anyone
who might benefit from specialist intervention
or advice will always be referred on to resources
within the NHS or the wider community.
The Counselling Service and Confidentiality
A fundamental principle of counselling is
that it should be confidential. There are
some exceptional situations when confidentiality
cannot be guaranteed and these will be
explained at the outset of counselling but,
these apart, counselling sessions are confidential
and nothing you discuss is disclosed to anyone
without your permission
