Student development
The Academic Skills Centre is based in rooms 312 in Galton Building, City North Campus and offer the following services to our University students:
Home Students
- The Academic Skills Centre in Galton G312.
- 1:1 or small group tutorials at City North, the Conservatoire, Gosta Green and Edgbaston campuses giving individualised help on matters relating to writing, effective reading and study skills in general. This service is carried out on an appointment basis (ring 0121 331 6236, 5348 and 6552).
Sessions on departmental induction programmes giving study skills advice.
- Workshops are at various times throughout the year.
- Examination Technique and Stress Management workshops at various times of the year.
- The Language for Learning in HE course.
International Students
- 5 and 10 week presessional courses in the summer. Click for information on the 2007 5 and 10 week courses.
- A one year Foundation course in English for Academic Puposes (FCEAP)
- English Language classes from October to the end of May at Perry Barr, Gosta Green, TIC and the Conservatoire. The majority of the classes are at Perry Barr and cover areas such as Academic Writing, Reading, Listening and Speaking; Grammar; Conversation; and General Classes.
- Preparation for University of Cambridge English examinations.
- 1:1 or small group help, mainly with writing. Usually on an appointment basis, held at Perry Barr, Gosta Green, the Conservatoire and Westbourne Road (ring 331 5348 for appointment).
