Research
Research at Birmingham City University is varied in its academic subject range, but has especially strong scholarly concentrations in the arts and humanities and the social sciences.
The emphasis in the Arts and Humanities is on speculative, theoretical, historical, critical, and cultural aspects, particularly music, the visual media, the linguistic, the creative, and the literary. Strengths in fields of a social-scientific nature include criminal justice policy, town and country planning, education, and management and enterprise.
The University has a number of Centres of Research Excellence, which are the main focal points for research activities. However, multi-disciplinary approaches are encouraged across the University for the development of successful partnerships at regional, national, European and global levels.
Consultancies and commissioned project work in a wide range of vocational and professional disciplines serve the needs of the university's clientele in business and the community. We actively encourage the creation of sustainable networks with other organisations that will enhance our reputation as a partner of choice in research and innovation.
Research at Birmingham City University is not only important for the support of teaching at the university, and to support its academic programmes, but as important contributions to knowledge and scholarship in their own right.
More detailed information about our research priorities and activities can be found via Faculty and Research Centre web pages.
