On the spot offers: still a healthy option for Clearing
5012/KB 18th August 2008
It’s not too late for potential Clearing students hoping to study for a career in health care at Birmingham City University, as they will have the chance of being offered a place on the spot by the University’s academic tutors.
The Clearing Open Day will take place in Baker Building on the main City North Campus in Perry Barr on Wednesday August 20 th from 10.00am until 5.00pm.
Interest in the University via Clearing has seen record numbers of potential students phoning the Clearing Hotline. Last week, on its first day of operation, the Hotline received almost 1,700 calls. The University’s first Clearing Open Day, held on Saturday August 16 th saw over 200 visitors to Birmingham City University.
Wednesday’s Open Day will see a number of academic tutors from the Faculty of Health who will be able to offer interviews for courses and make on the spot offers. Tutors are happy to carry out private, one-to-one interviews with people and if they are successful, they will be offered a place on a course.
For those who would like information about their options outside of the health care profession, there will be advisers on-hand from Choices, the University’s course information and guidance centre.
Potentially, a would-be student can take control of their future in higher education through Clearing with four simple steps:
- Visit the Open Day;
- Find out about the main campus and student accommodation via tour guides;
- Be interviewed by a tutor;
- If successful at interview, be given a place at the University.
Helen Staples, Senior Adviser for Choices , said: “Clearing can be an anxious time for potential students, which is why we have packed our Open Day with advice, guidance, and information.
“Those who attend our Open Day will not only be able find out what the University has to offer, they can also visit subject stands which are manned by staff who can give potential students information about areas that interest them. People will also have the option of going on guided tours of the campus including on-site student accommodation.”
