Advert made using University’s avant-garde camera equipment
Birmingham City University’s acting graduate stars in new commercial
University’s heritage brought to the fore
A new TV advert by Birmingham City University will showcase the educational institute’s cutting edge technology and the talent it produces by featuring one of its top recent graduates from the Birmingham School of Acting, part of the University.
The star of the television advert is Paul Gabriel, 26, a recent graduate who fronts the first TV commercial that the University has ever launched. The advert, which is also supported by a radio and poster campaign, shows Paul moving through different periods in time and depicts the existence of the institute from the 1800s to the present day.
The University has not only selected one of its best former acting students to feature in the advert, it also uses its Gosta Green Campus which has the latest state of the art MILO camera equipment, of which there are only three in operation throughout the county.
The MILO camera rig, where a move can be repeated up to one million times yet still give an identical image, was used in conjunction with green room facilities at the Campus, to create the transitional aspect of the commercial.
Kathryn Jones, Director of Marketing and Communications at the Birmingham City University, said: “The advert is very much a home-grown production, and because of our unrivalled excellence in the Arts, it was only natural we should feature one of our own Acting graduates, and make use of our state-of-the-art facilities.
“We hope the advert will help spread the message that we've been launching student careers successfully for over 150 years, as recent research revealed that many people simply don't realise the scale and success of the education we've been offering since 1843.
“People aren't aware of our outstanding record of teaching quality and academic expertise, so the advert will spread the word that throughout the University’s existence one thing has remained constant, our high standard of education.”
The advert will be screened nationally on E4 and in the Central region. It will be aired until 16th August. A second run of the advert will began from 1st - 21st September 2008.
