Potential first lady president at 100 year architecture celebration ball
5097/KB 17th July 2008
A ball to celebrate 100 years of Architecture at Birmingham School of Architecture, part of Birmingham City University, will be attended by the next potential president of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
Ruth Reed, Course Director of Postgraduate Architectural Practice at Birmingham School of Architecture, will attend the event, and if she secures the title of presidency she will become the first female to do so.
Ruth said: “On July 25 th I will know whether the presidency is mine or not, so it’s a very tense but exciting time for me at the moment. It’s a two-horse-race, and it is between me and my competitor, Andrew Hanson.
“Apart from the result of the RIBA, the other exciting event for me this summer is the Centenary Ball (1908-2008*). This event will commemorate Birmingham School of Architecture’s 100 year celebration of its role in architectural teaching and research.”
The Ball will include former students of the School. An invitation has been sent to Pierre d’Avoine who is a successful Architect with a company based in central London. Pierre has worked on many projects here and abroad and can name Architects Journal , Lotus ( Italy), Vogue world of interiors, Daily Telegraph, The Times,The Guardianand New York Times.
Ruth added: “We are really proud of this achievement, 100 years shows that the Birmingham School of Architecture was a pioneer venture. The School is the only one in the West Midlands, so this isn’t just significant for Birmingham, it’s also a proud moment for the region.”
Those who are interested in architecture will have the opportunity to sit and network with leading practitioners across the design and architecture industries.
The Centenary Ball will be held at The Botanical Gardens on Saturday August 2 nd at 7.00pm. The Ball includes a drinks reception, dinner and wine along with evening entertainment. The event is a black tie affair, tickets cost £55 each. To buy tickets go to www.bsa-alumni.org For more information about the ball contact Kevin Singh - kevin.singh@bcu.ac.uk
