Local student wins career nurturing opportunity

SA/5064 8th May 2008

A Birmingham City University student is celebrating after being crowned regional champion in a national student art competition.

21-year-old Rosemary Knowles from Sutton Coldfield has won the Midlands heat of Lloyds TSB Commercial Finance’s ‘The Art of Nurture’ competition, an initiative designed to help the cream of the UK’s art students to develop a commercial career.

Rosemary fought off stiff competition from short-listed students from across the region whose submissions were judged by a panel including Gavin Buckley, Director, Arts & Business West Midlands, Judith Harry, Deputy Director, IKON Gallery and Ted Ettershank, Managing Director of Lloyds TSB Commercial Finance .

‘The Art of Nurture’ has been developed by Commercial Finance; the asset based lending division of Lloyds TSB, and is supported by Arts & Business, the national charity dedicated to encouraging new and sustainable arts and business relationships.

Rosemary unfortunately wasn’t successful at the national final in London although she was proud of her regional award.

Rosemary said: “I was disappointed not to win at the nationals but was up against tough competition against students from eight other universities.

“The competition was a fantastic opportunity to boost my portfolio and develop skills for my future career, and I’m delighted to have got as far as I did.”
