“Birmingham is a cultured and vibrant city, full of quirky and popular places to visit. A social and cultural heaven”

Erasmus

Erasmus (the European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students) was introduced in 1987 with the aim of increasing student mobility across Europe.  The scheme is administered through the British Council.

Birmingham City University Erasmus studentsErasmus has developed beyond just being an educational programme.  It gives many European University students the chance of living for the first time in a foreign country, and it has reached the status of a social and cultural phenomenon.  Well over 1.5 million students have so far benefited from Erasmus grants, and the European Commission hopes to reach a total of 3 million by 2012.

Placements can be undertaken at a wide variety of institutions right across Europe in many differing subjects.  Students interested in participating in an Erasmus exchange abroad can find out more about what’s involved and whether you are eligible at the Erasmus Website. The site also details the stories and experiences of former students who have benefited from the scheme.  Beware their enthusiasm is infectious!
